Fun easy to make sculpture!
Easy and Elegant sculpture
This week we made a sculpture with our students that is so easy and fun to make, I wanted to share it with you here. It is a great way to use old pantyhose and those pesky dry cleaner hangers!
This can easily be made at home and makes a wonderful and fun gift!
Materials you will need:
One piece of wood for the base (we cut it 3" x 4") w/two holes drilled
wire coat hanger
One panty hose "leg".
primer paint or gesso. you can also use elmer's glue for this step, but if so, you need to allow about 5 days to dry.
spray paint (gold or silver)
Bend off the hook part of the hanger, bend the hanger, twist it and place each end of the hanger in small drill holes on base.
Slide the panty hose 'leg' slowly and carefully over wire. Pull down slowly over structure, careful not to poke your fingers or fingernails through (and run the hose). Pull it tautly, and make a knot with ends underneath the wood base.
Snip off extra:
You can see on this photo how taut the piece of hose across wood base is.. be careful not to tear it! Lastly, coat the bottom of the base with elmer's glue. Use plenty of glue and leave to dry for about 30 minutes.
Paint the sculpture with gesso or primer--we used regular house primer. (You may also brush it with elmer's glue-apply about three coats and wait about three days to dry).
Spray paint. Make sure you do this outdoors!
These look fantastic in metallic colors!
