Yesterday however, we had a couple of mishaps in the studio..and our trip to the National gallery of Art had to be canceled. Instead, we decided to go for a walk in the neighborhood to make sketches and gather objects for canvas pieces.
I set off with our small group of young artists on the trails, a couple of them not too enthused...however, within minutes, we had found a running brook- and with feet in the water, everyone seemed to fall into the adventure!
Soon we found a shade garden and a sunny garden, a beautiful and huge rose garden... huge butterflies and milk bugs...but most importantly: we found great beauty all around us- no need to get on a train or a plane.... after hiking in the urbs, I hope that everyone learned that beauty can be found in our own backyard.
I thought of these quotes:
Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~Kahlil Gibran
Art gallery? Who needs it? Look up at the swirling silver-lined clouds in the magnificent blue sky or at the silently blazing stars at midnight. How could indoor art be any more masterfully created than God's museum of nature? ~Grey Livingston
